Components of the Music Together® Curriculum

Our carefully developed blend of curriculum and support is the most comprehensive in the field, and enables students and teachers to take full advantage of the power of music to support early education. Unique to our program are the materials families receive to continue the music-learning at home and support the school's family engagement efforts.

Music and Movement Activities

Weekly music classes led by a trained Music Together specialist include playful, developmentally appropriate music and movement activities, reinforced by our award-winning recordings, songbooks, and other materials for class and home. Music becomes a part of classroom life, too, as classroom teachers integrate the songs and activities into the broader curriculum (with the support of the music specialist!).

Supporting Family Engagement

Bringing parents, children, and families together is fundamental to the Music Together approach. The home component of our music curriculum is unparalleled. Read more about how the program can complement your family engagement plan.

The Music Specialist

The Music Together specialist teaches engaging, multimodal classes each week to help students make musical discoveries that support development of the whole child. All Music Together specialists must complete Music Together’s comprehensive online training for our school curriculum, where they’ll learn our innovative, research-based approach to music education. Complete with classroom video footage, the training also explores: how the curriculum can support early learning goals, how to work with classroom teachers, lesson-planning, classroom management, and the importance of working with parents and caregivers. Prior to the training, all participants must submit a video demonstrating that they can sing in tune in the Music Together range and keep a steady beat in the upper and lower body. Schools are welcome to train a staff member as their specialist, or we can help identify a local Music Together teacher.

Professional Development and Support for Classroom Teachers

Because children naturally learn from the important adults in their lives, classroom teachers are essential in Music Together—even if they don't consider themselves "musical." Through personalized mentoring and active participation in music classes, classroom teachers enhance their own teaching skills and learn to use music to support other curricular areas.

The music specialist mentors classroom teachers on how to use Music Together activities, songs, and materials to support their educational goals and weave music into the children's daily routines. Classroom teachers also have access to their own online portal with additional activities, suggestions and tips. Specialists may also offer formal in-services to more deeply explore the importance of music to children's overall development.
